Your IP Address

Why you might need this

Your IP address is the unique number assigned to your internet connection. You might need to know it to:

• Allow a remote service (firewall, whitelist, game server) to let you in
• Verify a VPN is working (if the IP still shows your real location, it isn't)
• Troubleshoot network problems with your ISP
• Report abuse or share with tech support

Public vs private IP

The address above is your public IP — what the internet sees. Inside your home/office, your router gives you a private IP (usually 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x) which the internet never sees directly.
